That is done by reading a portion of the file from an input-stream connected to the FTP server and immediately write it to an output-stream connected to the SMB server. For instance, it can read files from an FTP server and write them to an SMB server without writing them to a temporary persistent location. That way, reading from a remote file protocol and writing to another remote file protocol can be made very efficient.

MuCommander is a great file management software that is a bit more complex, which more experienced users will definitely have no problem using.Ten years ago (2008) I submitted my first contribution to an open source project named muCommander that I maintain to this day. It also supports remote and cloud-based locations, which will allow users to browse the files on an FTP/SFTP server, Amazon S3, Hadoop, Dropbox, etc. Users will be able to navigate between folders and other locations without any effort, by entering the location using the address bars or by selecting the target using the dropdown menu. The program will also give users the possibility to mark files, view their properties, change access permissions or their timestamp, while also allowing them to create archives, unpack them, send files via email, batch rename files, and more. MuCommander is a very complex open-source file management that was designed for more experienced users and will allow them to browse files and folders on their computers in a more convenient manner.
